Teachers addressing students mid-lecture.

It's kind of annoying when a teacher notices that a student is drifting off/not paying attention and says their name in the middle of the lecture.

Example:
Teacher: "And the atomic mass, CHRIS, is 32."

I hate it when teachers do that.

Probably because it happens to you. Think about it, how else would they get their attention? Stopping the lecture and explicitly addressing the student?

I had a teacher once who would kick the desks of sleeping or distracted students, and scare the crap out of them. Effective AND hilarious!

Believe it or not, we work hard on our lectures and we care whether or not you are paying attention. You want to sleep? Go home.

So, I guess expecting you to wake up and pay attention, CHRIS, is asking too much?

Your teacher's pet peeve is probably the inconsiderate students who sleep, talk, or text in class. :)

Just stay home save me the trouble of trying to figure out how to teach you something. My bad for caring. And also what Layla said. :)

Sleeping in class? a victimless crime. Granted, I could never relax enough to do it, but I don't give a shit if my classmates do it.
