Recycling of a term of affection from a previous relationship.

I was, early on in a relationship, called "sweetie" when I clearly didn't deserve the nickname. I knew it was meant for someone else. But for whom? When an ex-boyfriend's answering machine message was broadcast through her apartment, starting with the word, I had my answer.

I agree. It feels so insincere. I have used up all the classics; sweetie, baby, luvmuffin, darling, pudding, buttercup. So, now I am married to the love of my life, I don't have any good petnames left. It is a problem. I would love to call him "sweetheart" but I can't. All that is left to use "tranny-cock" and "bitchcat."

"Tranny-Cock" is brilliant! Are we allowed to use this term of endearment for our new significant others?

— Biffy

Yes, but only if when you think of "tranny-cock" you think of me.

— Rae

How about "Buttnugget"?

— Jill

Try "hunnybuns".

Sweet thing? (or "thang", but that annoying) shugga bugga look some up on the internet i'm sure you'll find one you'll like.

— Ben

I am really afraid of this! My first girlfriend and I used "baby pterodactyl" as a term of endearment, because we had futures to plan for.
