Grubby, tangled haired children.

Are you in a war torn country without running water or spare clothes? No? Then wash you kids faces, and change their clothes. God, what kind of parents are you, letting your kids look like street urchins!

that's really judgmental

I don't think it's judgmental to think people should try to keep their young children clean! It's called parenting! It's especially unfortunate when they have food all over their faces. Yuck! A sink of water, a cloth, and a bar of soap are cheap!

people who shouldnt have kids have kids all the time, they are barely able to clean and dress themselves let alone properly care for another human. its a sad truth and it seems really insenstive for this to be a "peeve" but since homeless people and other marginalized people are already "peeves" on this site it would be asking too much for there to be any sensitivity on this issue.

It's quite clear that you have never spent time with small children. They have a remarkable capacity for rapidly soiling themselves. And if hey have a snotty nose in public, it is likely because they scream when you go to wipe it. The adults are just trying to spare you the screams.

Its really not THAT hard to keep your kids clean. I never leave home without wipes and a spare shirt for my kids, because I don't like dirty kids, either It takes a bit more work, yes, but its possible to keep your kids presentable.

Kids will be kids; what's the point in cleaning them up and changing their clothes every five minutes when they're going to go right back and do it again? As long as they don't have anything too foul on them, what's the harm? My cousins used to be terrified of getting dirty because their mother would tell them off, that's no way for a child to grow up.

I agree! Since I don't have my own children, I run around washing other people's children, and most especially their clothes, in order to waste as much water as possible. Ideally, I will be able to single-handedly expedite the coming water shortage by changing the outfits of other people's children every 2 hours. Because I totally have my priorities straight.

Keeping clean is one thing; the kids I see don't even start out clean. Parents and kids both seem to roll out of bed and go to the local WalMart (where else?) without so much as running as hairbrush through their hair or taking a bar of soap to their bodies. I think we can be quite sure they don't know what a toothbrush is for! The trend of wearing pajama bottoms in public needs to stop as well.
